The aim of the project is to raise people's awareness about the possibilities of sustainable renovation of historical and culturally valuable buildings, especially in the countryside. Another important aim is to give people practical skills so they could themselves renovate and maintain the best way the historically valuable houses.
The main activities of the project are theoretical seminars and practical workshops about sustainable restauration and conservation. During the seminars we give an overview how to repair houses according to the requirements of the heritage protection and how to preserve the uniqueness of the historical houses. There are also study tours in Tallinn, Paide, Esna/Kareda, Viljandi and Pärnu, where we examine the old houses, we show what is well done and what could be done better, and we share our knowledge how to repair houses that need renovation. During the practical workshops we teach traditional working methods and the using of natural building materials: lime and clay plaster, restauration of wooden windows, doors and facades, traditional paints, building field stone walls and cleaning field stone wells.
